The Scottish Highlands and England 1685

Cat Campbell being such an amazing warrior and healer, is asked by Catherine de Braganza of House Braganza, Queen of  England, Scotland and Ireland, to come help her ailing husband King Charles II. The English Queen fears he may of been poisoned. In addition she knows Cat is strong, trustworthy plus and a talented healer.

Nathaniel Worthington, 5th Viscount of Lincolnshire, has not been able to get Cat off his mind since they shared a passionate kiss last year. As she never left his side when she cared for him when he had been badly injured from a gunshot. Though neither mention it neither forgets it. Now after the time Nathaniel has spent in Scotland, he realizes being a Viscount, part of Parliament and House of Lords is not what he wants anymore. As the English, wealthy, women, only want him for his wealth, title and lands. His father is still pulling his strings from the grave. His father’s solicitor is harassing him to pick a wife. This means an English heiress or one that will help his political career. If not he will lose everything, but his title Nathaniel doesn’t care about politics, titles and home, but no money or position anymore would make his sisters penniless too.

As a Scottish redheaded spit fire who screams like a banshee, wears trousers under her skirts, this includes knives, hair picks and sharps weapons under her skirts. She cares and loves her little fourteen year old, mute sister, who she will do anything for. Cat had a horrible childhood and has always hated everything English. Both are laming them for both her parents deaths!

Nathaniel volunteers to escort Cat, for a number of reasons, but mostly because he wants to protect her from the viscous English court. The English  women use their evil tongues not daggers to ruin others. Many men behave like animals treating women like prostitutes or slaves will not accept no as a woman’s answer to a woman’s body. Some even make deals with slave traders,  today we would call it human trafficking. Both will put lower class citizens in deadly situations, just to get ahead or wealthier for what they desire with no remorse. It doesn’t matter if they are a poor, starving, orphan/child or an adult . Nathaniel is ashamed that he was once apart of this world not with slave traders but he wouldn’t recognize their greed or meanness .  A year ago he would of married any of these heartless women, but now he needed to find a way out. Especially after seeing his sisters both finding respectable men who love them completely. He wanted a love match too. Yet it didn’t seem like there was any way out plus not without hurting his sisters. They would lose the school if he ignored their dead father’s wishes.

Plus he had a big secret that Cat might despise him for if he reveals the truth. He knows he has to tell her before she hears it from someone else. Plus Cat did not want to ever be married nor does she believe in love with a man. Seeing how horribly her father treated her mother and her mother lived in deep depression and misery before her horrible death! Both she and her sister we very much ignored. Now Nathaniel was making her feel things for the first time. Could this be love? As both of them have never experienced this emotion on a passion level before. As only love for their siblings is they only love they ever recognized.

There here are spies, murderers, espionage and traitors at every turn. Who is your friend and who is your foe? Plus no one wants this low class Scottish beauty with this English Viscount. Do they even have a fighting chance of having relationship that could last forever?

An emotionally fast paced, action packed, page turning riveting adventure, from start to finish. This includes all the elements historical romance readers love with suspense, treachery, mystery, murder, hatred, assault, secrets, betrayal defense, healing, trust, joy and love.

The setting was magnificent, dialogue was amazing, the plots within plots was awe-inspiring. The multi-demensional characters were just both phenomenal and exhilarating! Even the secondary characters like the child Mouse touched my soul.

I have read every book in this brilliant Campbell Serie. You can read as a stand alone book too. I personally like the family and character connections but that is a personal choice. Readers can read The Wicked Viscount either way.

I definitely recommend this masterpiece. A book readers don’t want to miss!
